As of mid June 2019, we are beginning to remove the project page Facebook widget as one of the standard options.
Naturally, the first question is 'WHY'?
In short, Facebook are removing their support for these widgets and how they are implemented in engagementHQ shortly.
In a bit more detail:
Our current Facebook widget has three different configuration options
- Page Plugin
- Comment Feature
- Follow option
As some of you may have noticed, we removed the third option already due to changes at Facebook's end.
The second option 'comment' is currently still working, but in the context of good practice community engagement is no longer encouraged. When you run your consultations through engagementHQ, you want your participants to focus their attention on the tools that you have enabled.
Finally, the first and by far most popular option 'Page Plugin' is going to be deprecated by Facebook soon. When that happens our eHQ widget will stop working and we are on the front foot to avoid this happening on your project page.
The good news here is that with hardly any additional effort you can continue to plug your Facebook feed into your project page. This is outlined in details here
If you currently already have a Facebook widget on any of your project pages you don't have to worry. We are running an automatic migration in which we will convert the current widget to a custom widget, configured just as described in the help article above. We expect this to happen over the course of the month and it should not have any impact on your pages and consultations.
As always, if you have any more questions about this change, please feel free to contact us via chat or through email at support@engagementhq.com
